Automated Well Swaps

Case Study

Automated Well Swaps

Challenge

A customer identified that the best completions teams and procedures were dependant on every person on pad being successful. Their best frac plan depended on the lowest-qualified individual opening the correct valve, and they were seeking a method to eliminate this operational risk.

Solution

Using SmartPAD as an independent translator, we took end state metrics from frac data, turned that into an ‘End of Stage’ message to the automated well head provider and successfully performed a human-less well swap.

Results

The customer can now perform autonomous well swaps on pad, enabling continuous pumping and preventing the rare but high-risk activities of closing a well during a wireline run or opening valves out of sequence during a well swap.
